Betty Shakoor - Mahasin was born and raised in Westchester, New York. She is married and has seven biological children, one-step daughter, and eleven grand children. Along with her husband Dawud Shakoor she owns and operates Shakoor’s Merchandise in Richmond.
Betty has been performing since the tender age of four. She has shared the stage with legendary Greats across many genres.
She has had the honor of performing in “Once Upon A Time When We Were Colored” directed by Tim Reid, and “The Inkwell” directed by Mattie Rich.
One of her greatest honors was performing with Taj Mahal and singing for Isaac Hayes. Betty Shakoor - Mahasin has studied voice and Drama, and has produced many venues from New York to North Carolina. Betty Shakoor - Mahasin has an Associates of Applied Science Degree with a major in Early Childhood Development, Summa cum laude, from J.S. Reynolds Community College and also The Associates in Applied Science in Microcomputer Systems Technology from Sampson Community College in Clinton NC. Betty has completed Small Business Success Session from MBL, Certificate of Completion from Jackson Hewitt Basic Income Tax Course, and received Employee Recognition 2007 from Sun Trust Mortgage, Inc.
She gives tutoring lessons, and volunteers in Youth Detention Centers. She was also instrumental in directing a youth Chorus and Theatre group, in Walmsley Terrace. One of the Youth groups performed at the Children’s Museum with request to come back.
